I love sitting side by side with my clients to do something fun. This word search is a fabulous tool.

School can be a complicated time for kids, as they grow and face a range of challenges, we want to give them many opportunities to become emotionally intelligent. This can start by looking at feeling words, and helping kids to learn to use them, then become comfortable using words to express themselves.

There are so many benefits to teaching kids about emotions, including; promoting emotional intelligence, recognising and understanding emotions is essential to emotional intelligence, which is crucial for children's success, improving communication: Children who understand emotions can communicate their feelings better, promoting healthy relationships and communication skills. Encouraging empathy: Understanding emotions can also help children develop empathy, essential for building strong relationships and becoming caring individuals.

Different ways to use this word search:

  • Work on it together, taking turns to find words.

  • Ask the child to choose a different colour for each feeling word and use it when the word is found, ask some open questions to encourage conversation.

  • As the child to find a word and invite them to share a story about when they last felt that way.

  • As they find a word, ask them to tell you about a time they saw someone else display that feeling.

  • As they find a feeling word, ask them to think of when they felt that feeling, what did they do? (actions) and how they felt afterwards? (reflection on action) would they do anything differently the next time? (changing actions).
