Use this to help a child or young person recognise who they have supporting them or this can be used as safety check.

This activity reminds and/or teaches kids to know who the safe adults are in their life.

You may want to do one hand for home and one for school.

If you are doing one hand you want a mix of adults from home, school and one from neighbourhood/sport/etc. You can use the following prompts:

Who can you talk to about your problems?

Who’s the person you feel most safe around? (write them in the thumb)

Who's the next person if ‘thumb” is busy? (write them in the pointer)

If they are both family members, then…

Who is someone at school you feel safe with? (write them in middle finger)

Another person at school? An extended family member? Someone else.

If the child/young person says their teddy, friend, dog or cat, God or similar, I like to respond with “they are a great friends to share all your feelings with but can they help you if need it?”

When they respond “no”. You can write their special teddy/animal/etc into the palm of their hand, this validates their response and again reminding them that helping adults are ones that can HELP.

I like to remind them they always have 000 up their sleeve or Kids Help Line

1800 55 1800, it's useful to have a conversation about calling these numbers.

This can be heavy stuff so keep it simple and fun!

Use colours and lots of positive language.
